Symptoms of depression

Some symptoms of depression are pretty much always present, but some are not experienced by all sufferers.

Core symptoms
There are a number of core symptoms that are almost always present in cases of depression.

  • Sadness
  • Diminished desire
  • Reduced energy

Accompanying symptoms

You might experience various accompanying symptoms that are often observed in connection with depression.

  • Diminished self-confidence
  • Self-reproach
  • Failing memory and concentration
  • Movement inhibition
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Appetite changes (loss of or increased appetite)
  • Suicidal thoughts

You do not need to have all the symptoms to be struck with depression.

Other symptoms
Finally, there are other symptoms that in some cases can appear with depression.

  • Anxiety
  • Irritability
  • Aggression
  • Pains
  • Loss of libido
